Inscribed by the author on the front blank: "Miss Della M. Hackett. With kind regards, W. R. Leigh, June 2nd 1939." A narrative of the African travels of American artist William Robinson Leigh (1866-1955). Although best known for his paintings of the US West and Southwest, Leigh accompanied Charles Akeley of the American Museum of Natural History as expedition artist on a collecting trip through Africa in 1926, which he here recounts in word and picture. Light coloured cloth is a little darkened and lightly soiled from handling, slightly shaken, page edges darkened and a bit thumbed, front hinge cracked between blank endpapers - but hinge is sound. Pages lightly browned otherwise an unmarked near VG copy (no dust jacket). Item #40373
