The Great White Chief Echa Tah Echa Nah The Mighty and Wise One [ Cover title: The Indian Great White and The Indian Messiah ].

Salt Lake City: Privately Printed, 1971. First Edition Thus. Hardcover. Octavo. x + 116pp. White cloth gilt-lettered on spine & front board. This book apparently explores - from the point of view of a true believer - the beliefs concerning American Indians that are expounded in the "Book of Mormon" and predictions by Joseph Smith about an Indian Messiah, then following occurrences regarding him in the last century. Also, loosely inserted, is a mimeographed leaflet, headed "A Summary" and with a facsimile of Pierce's signature, which outlines the contents of "The Great White Chief," and seems to disapprovingly chronicle the rejection of "plural marriage" by the LDS. The author, Norman C. Pierce (1906-1976), was an American Mormon who lived in Salt Lake City and wrote various other works, including an account of John H. Koyle and his "Dream Mine". Top-edge foxed, spine & boards slightly discolored, else a clean VG copy (no dust jacket). Scarce. Item #43789
