Item #45488 We Do Not Die. Shaw DESMOND.

We Do Not Die.

London: Arthur Barker, 1934. First Edition. Hardcover. Octavo. 400pp. Blue cloth gilt-lettered on spine. A comprehensive and sympathetic survey of Spiritualism and defence of the belief in life after death. The author of the work, Shaw Desmond (1877-1960) was an Irish writer who penned over 50 books, although he is best known in esoteric circles for his book "Ragnarok." He was an enthusiastic and eloquent advocate of Spiritualism, lecturer, founder of the International Institute for Psychical Research, and president of the Survival League. The book is genuinely and inexplicably rare: copies are so seldom encountered that it is hard not to speculate that it may have been deliberately withdrawn or suppressed although we could find no evidence of this having occurred. Spine ends chafed, several small marks to boards, bumps to corners of boards, hint of discoloration to page-edges, previous owner's inscription on front free endpaper, otherwise a clean VG copy (no dust jacket).
