An extraordinary collection of lore regarding demonic and spiritual possession, from all countries and eras, suggesting that the phenomena of possession and exorcism have always been present in the landscape of human experience. The first edition appears in several different bindings, including gilt stamped green cloth (as in this copy) and black-lettered blue cloth. The sequence of issue is not known. Alchemically-themed bookplate of Henry Albert Steinmann on the front pastedown. Light bump to head of spine. Corners and spine ends a bit bruised & chafed, light ripples and a few light marks to cloth, top-edge browned. Pages a little thumbed, pages lightly toned and with a few scattered spots of browning, adhesive and remains of old bookplate on rear pastedown, otherwise a solid, internally-clean VG copy (no dust jacket).
