A study of facets of psychometry or what is now termed ESP, and a detailed examination of laboratory methods used to test it. The work was approved by the University of London for the award of Hettinger's PhD and was followed up by Hettinger in 1941 with "Exploring the Ultra-Perceptive Faculty". This copy with the author's presentation inscription on the front blank "To Mr. Tyrrell, with kind regards, J. Hettinger". 'Mr. Tyrrell' is almost certainly George Nugent Merle Tyrrell (1879-1952) [AKA G. N. M. Tyrrell] a British mathematician and parapsychologist who was president of Society for Psychical Research (1945-1946), and was best known for his study and writings on "apparitions". From the collection of Dr. M. H. Coleman, with his ex-libris seal blind-stamped on the front free endpaper. Spine faded & chafed at ends, spine lettering dulled, corners bumped and a bit frayed, small mark to bottom page edge, otherwise a solid, internally clean VG copy (no dust jacket). Unusual.
