A envelope addressed by hand to Prof. J. H. Hyslop, and with the author's return name & address, is affixed with tape to the front free endpaper. The envelope contains a single page typed letter, signed, to pyschical researcher James H. Hyslop, signed by the author, I. N. Mast. In the letter, dated Feb 22, 1900, the author discusses their respective views on psychical research, and refers to sending him the book in the hope that it would help with Hyslop's researches. Bookplate reading "American Institute for Scientific Research / from the library of / James H. Hyslop" on verso of dedication page. More recently from the collection of Dr. M. H. Coleman, with his ex-libris seal blind-stamped on front free endpaper. Some rubbing and discoloration to front board, several tiny tears and light fraying at upper spine, lower spine and corners lightly bruised and frayed, page-edges toned, American Society for Psychical Research inkstamp on front pastedown, number at lower edge of title-page, pages lightly toned, text unmarked. Overall a solid, internally-clean VG copy. A scarce title with an interesting provenance. Item #53563
