Inscribed on the front free endpaper: "Presented by the author." "The object of this book is to inaugurate the Christian Occult Society for all those who recognize the 'Christ' as their master, and to form within the Society 'The Order of the White Rose', for occult investigation." Chapters include: Early investigations into spiritualism; Christian occultism; On the Christos; Reincarnation and the afterlife; The Christian Occult Society. The author is commonly identified as Alfred Frederick Tindall, who also published several other works, including one "Occult Revelations, In Prose and Verse" said to have been "obtained through psychical means." This copy appears to be have been previously in the library of the American Society for Psychical Research, as suggested by their name-stamp on the front pastedown, catalog number (?) at the bottom of title-page; and a light mark to the base of the spine where a shelf label has been removed (no other library marks). The inside front hinge is cracking but held firm, the publisher's address on the title-page has been struck through and a different address written beneath it. Cloth slightly rubbed & darkened, light bumps to points and edges, otherwise a clean solid VG copy. Scarce. Item #53979
