Item #54635 The Whirlpool. Ethel ARCHER, Aleister Crowley.

The Whirlpool.

( Thame, England ): First Impressions, 1993. First edition thus. Hardcover. Small Octavo. 50pp. Black cloth with gilt title, etc. to spine. Originally published in 1911 this collection of poems addressed to Victor Neuburg and other intimates of Aleister Crowley includes an Introduction & Dedication by Crowley, and a poem by Victor Neuburg. The author, Ethel Archer, was a close associate of Crowley's at the time, and one of the central figures in the group involved with the publication of "The Equinox" series: with her husband Eugene Wieland she published a number of Crowley's works. Includes advertisements for "The Equinox" and other Crowley titles at rear. Gerald Yorke, who was usually a reliable source, attributed the front cover design (reproduced in this volume as the frontispiece) to Austin Osman Spare, however, there is compelling evidence to suggest that it was actually by Eugene Wieland. This edition includes reproductions of the manuscript notes etc. from the copy in Gerald Yorke's collection. Fine condition, no dustjacket (as issued). Item #54635
