Item #57970 La Gauloise. ( Song of the Free French ). Aleister CROWLEY.

La Gauloise. ( Song of the Free French ).

London: Privately Printed, 1942. First Edition. Pamphlet. 4 1/2 x 6 inches. A single sheet folded once to make 4 printed pages, the first of which is the title page, and the following three pages a patriotic poem composed by Crowley. The rare First Issue of this pamphlet, with "Song of the Free French" rather than "Song of the Fighting French" as the subtitle. There seems to be some uncertainty as to the reason for the change of title, but it has been ventured that the British authorities (who effectively created De Gaulle and the Free French army) were not impressed by the disreputable Crowley aligning himself with the cause, and quietly suggested to him that it would be in his interests to desist. Back page unevenly browned, overall a little dusty, still a better-than-VG copy of an extremely scarce example of Crowley ephemera. Item #57970
