Inscribed by the author on the front cover: "To the S.R.I.A. with the author's compliments" thus from the library of the Society Rosicruciana in Anglia with their bookplate on the inside front cover. An offprint of a series first published in the late 1930s in "Annals of Science" about William Harvey (1578 – 1657) an English physician who made groundbreaking contributions to the study of anatomy and physiology. The author, Henry Peter George Bayon (1876–1952), was a doctor who is now largely remembered on account of his role in the study of carcinogens having demonstrated the production of cancer by the injection of tar in 1912. He was also (presumably) a member of the S.R.I.A. and had a profound interest in the history and philosophy of the medical sciences, on which he published a number of studies and essays. Whilst not explicitly Hermetic, these obviously touched on Fludd, Paracelsus, Baconian thought, etc. etc. Covers darkened, discoloure and rubbed, with some light chipping and bumps to edges & points, page edges darkened and lightly foxed, contents bright and clean. Overall a tight, complete and unmarked VG copy of a fragile and scarce book. Item #59896
