Alvin Langdon Coburn (1882 – 1966) was a Boston-born photographer who was a key figure in the development of American "pictorialism," but spent much of his life in the United Kingdom. Coburn was also an active Freemason, Kabbalist, and short-lived member of Waite's Fellowship of the Rosy Cross (until he cannibalised the Fellowship's rituals for use in his own Universal Order) who in later life joined the Societas Rosicruciana in Anglia, becoming a VIIo member, and wrote several short monographs on occult themes, including one on the Kabbalah. The summons was issued from 14 Earl's Court Square, S.W.5, under the authority of the "Keeper of the Sacred Mystery", [Frater] Sacramentum Regis, 7 = 4 (A. E. Waite). According to Gilbert these forms were probably printed in 1922, the year in which this example was used. Gilbert C42. A couple of tiny crease to corners, still a near-Fine copy and rare thus.
