London: Grant Richards Ltd., 1909. First Edition. Hardcover. Octavo. 278pp. Original maroon cloth w/ gilt title, etc, to spine, appendixes, top edge gilt. Rev. Charles L. Tweedale (d. 1944) was the vicar of Weston, Otley, Yorkshire, and a prominent British defender of Spiritualism. He was a friend of psychic photographer William Hope, in whose favour he spoke when accusations of fraud were levied against Hope. 'Man's Survival After Death" was a broad-ranging, sympathetic overview of Spiritualism, which became one of the most popular books on the subject of the time. All edges and extremities a bit chafed, bumps to corners, edges & spine ends, spine slightly canted, endpapers unevenly browned, pages toned with a few creased corners, rear endpaper split at inner hinge with some (hinge holding solidly), discolouration and damp mark to upper edge of rear pastedown. Still a tight, unmarked VG copy. Item #61381
