B&W portraits of the two protagonists. An account and transcription of a public debate held in Headrick, Oklahoma, on August 20, 1917, between John W. Ring, a Pennsylvania born Spiritualist, and J. W. Chism, a Texan preacher. The topic was: "Resolved, That the fundamental principles of Modern Spiritualism are identical with the spiritual basis of the religion of Jesus Christ." Perhaps needless to say, Ring argued the affirmative, and Chism the negative. Short biographies of both men are appended. From the collection of Dr. M. H. Coleman, although not marked as such. Light discolouration/damp mark to fore-edges of both boards, spine ends chafed with a bit of loss and fraying, page edges darkened, slight damp mark to lower corner of front pastedown, pages toned, owner's name, date & note on title page - a tight and otherwise unmarked near VG copy (no dust jacket).
