The Porch. Vol. I, No. 5. September, 1910, (containing the text of ) "Extracts from the Life and Letters of John G. Gitchel. A.D. 1638-1710"

London: The Scriptorium / John M. Watkins, 1910. First Edition. Softcover. Small square octavo. 5 3/4 x 4 3/4 inches. 48pp. Original printed soft paper wrappers. The fifth number of this short-lived mystical journal published by John Watkins. Aleister Crowley referred to "The Porch" as an "admirable series" and "a delightful addition to our periodical literature." This number is entirely devoted to a selection of "Extracts from the Life and Letters of John G. Gitchel. A.D. 1638-1710" compiled by a Mrs. C. L. Elliott from a manuscript translation prepared for one E. B. Penny. Johann Georg Gichtel was a German mystic and disciple of Jakob Boehme, who became a religious leader in his own right. Numerals identifying the issue number neatly inked on the otherwise blank spine. Wrappers a little chipped and worn, some discoloration to rear wrapper, previous owner's name in upper margin of front wrapper, still a VG+ copy of a very uncommon publication. Item #61617
