The first edition of this curious occult tale with strong Rosicrucian and alchemical influences, written semi-anonymously by Franz Hartmann (1838 - 1912) the Bavarian-American writer, physician, theosophist, occultist, geomancer, and astrologer, who was part of the late nineteenth century German esoteric milieu that gave birth to organizations like the O.T.O. Cloth a little rubbed and darkened overall, some significant fading to cloth mainly at spine ends, spine ends and corners lightly bumped and chafed, slightly canted, front endpaper lightly split at lower inner hinge, pages toned with some light spot browning at inner margins. Still overall a tight, clean VG copy. Scarce. Item #61657
