The Reality of a Spiritual World; Affirmations. God in the Modern World series. Section VIII

London: Ernest Benn Ltd, 1930. First Edition. Softcover. Small octavo. 32pp. Original yellow wrappers, upper cover and spine lettered in black. This copy with Lodge's SIGNED INSCRIPTION on the front cover to Sir George Paget Thomson, the English physicist and Nobel laureate: "To my friend, George Paget Thomson and to his wife, daughter of my old friend George Adam Smith with cordial greeting & congratulations on his reception at Cornell University & on the good work that is being done. 11 Feb 1930, [signed] Oliver Lodge." George Paget Thomson was an English physicist who in 1937 was jointly awarded the Nobel prize for physics for his work discovering the wave-like properties of the electron. He was married to Kathleen Buchanan, daughter of the Very Rev. Sir George Adam Smith, a famous Scottish Theologian whom Lodge also referenced in the inscription. The booklet is one of a series which were designed to provide concise information upon the problems which "trouble men's minds", each volume dealing constructively with a definite question and ending with a short list of books for further study. In this booklet, Lodge makes a case for the world of spirit. From the collection of Dr. M. H. Coleman, although not marked as such. Covers a bit rubbed and darkened, edges a little curled, spine creased, page edges toned, a few creased corners and short tears to page edges, slight loosening of pages from wrappers. Still overall a clean VG copy with a remarkable association. Item #62128
