St. Paul, MN: Peach Publishing c/o the Gnostic Institute, 1968. First Edition. Hardcover. Octavo. x + 172pp. Black glazed cloth with gilt lettering to spine and upper board. B/w illustrations. Colour frontis reproduces "The Chariot" tarot card. This copy INSCRIBED & SIGNED by the author on the dedication page: "To [previous owner's names] I sure hope that it works for you always. Ophiel, Edward C. Peach, San Francisco, Cal, February 15, 1972" and ending with astrological symbols (Sun in Aquarius, Moon in Pisces). The first edition of these lessons in practical occult methods, including Qabalah and rituals, by Edward C. Peach AKA "Ophiel" (1904 -1988), who wrote 9 books on various esoteric subjects that have become mainstays of modern occultism. Ophiel was enormously popular in the 1960s through 1980s and the books in his "Art and Practice" series, plus others, introduced many people to the study of the occult. Very light bruising to corners and spine ends, page edges and endpapers a bit darkened, book-seller's label on front pastedown, else a lovely clean VG+ copy in better-than VG dust jacket - (Dust jacket a bit chafed and creased at edges, points and folds; light chips to spine ends, inner flaps a bit yellow) Signed /inscribed books by Ophiel are genuinely uncommon.
