Tooke's "Pantheon" is a study of Greek mythology, drawn from the "Pantheum Mythicum seu Fabulosa Deorum Historia" (1659) of Francois Pomey (1619-1673). Pomey's work was translated into English by scholar and educator Andrew Tooke in 1698, and soon became established as the handbook of Greek myth and legend, being reprinted numerous times during the next century and a half. Contemporary full brown calf, titling and decorations in blind to the spine. Hinges cracked but boards firmly attached to ties, leather chipped at head and tail of spine, corners rounded, frontispiece glued down onto second blank, occasional chipping and tears, but pages still firmly bound.
