Theos Casimir Bernard (1908 – 1947) was an American scholar of Indic and Tibet religion, an accomplished practitioner of Yoga, and a pioneer of Indian and Tibetan studies in the United States. "Heaven Lies Within" is a fascinating exposition of Yoga (in particular Hatha Yoga), its practice and philosophy, set in the context of the author's travels and researches in India. In addition to his scholarship, Bernard had a fascinating life of travel and adventure, and was only the third American to visit Lhasa. The circumstances of his death are unknown, but he disappeared, presumed murdered, on his way to a Tibetan monastery in a remote area of the Indian Himalaya. Cloth darkened at spine and outer margins of boards, spine ends and corners bruised and rubbed, fore-edge darkened and lightly foxed, endpapers unevenly browned, owner's name etc in pencil on front blank, a tiny bit of scattered browning and foxing. Overall a tight, unmarked VG+ copy in Good + dust jacket (Dust jacket somewhat worn overall. Rubbed, chafed and chipped at all edges and points, price clipped, now protected by removeable mylar sleeve). Item #63184
