Stanford, CA: James Ladd Delkin, 1953. Second edition. Hardcover. Octavo. xxvi + 220pp. Black cloth with gilt title, etc. to spine, gilt lettering on front cover, notes, bibliography and index. The second edition with a new preface. Alan Wilson Watts (1915-1973) was a British-born philosopher, and one time Episcopal priest who moved to America where his many books on Eastern Religions & mysticism were extremely influential on the Beat movement of the 1950s and counter culture of the 1960s. From the publisher: "his object [ in this volume ] is to prove to us something about ourselves as we are now, which, when understood, becomes a basic - one might say existential - happiness which persists through joy and sorrow alike." Light bruising to corners and spine ends, page edges darkened and top edge a bit dusty. Pages toned, a few scattered and easily erased pencil marks, else a tight, bright VG+ copy in lightly edge rubbed, clipped VG dust jacket. (Dust jacket now protected by removable mylar cover).
