Psychography: A Treatise on One of the Objective Forms.

London: W. H. Harrison, 1882. Second Edition revised. Hardcover. Octavo. viii + 128pp. Original maroon cloth gilt-lettered on spine & front board, gilt solar design to upper board, appendix. B/w illustrations. The second edition of this volume anonymously written by William Stainton Moses (1839-1892), an English clergyman and spiritualist. Moses was a highly respected figure, who claimed a number of clairvoyant and psychical experiences, but was best known for his 'automatic scripts,' received via direct communication from a band of 'spirits,' between 1872 and 1883. In this book he explores in depth instances of "psychography" or "spirit writing." From the collection of Dr. M. H. Coleman, with his ex-libris seal blind-stamped on the front free endpaper. Minor rubbing at spine ends, spine and upper section of front board slightly faded. Page-edges browned, a little foxing to first & last pages, someone has written "Revd Stainton Moses" on the title page in ink (to identify the otherwise pseudonymous author) else a tight, internally-clean VG+ copy.
