Octavo. 322 + (ii)pp. Attractive contemporary binding, vellum spine and corners over navy-blue patterned cloth boards, gilt lettered leather spine label. Black and white frontispiece. FRENCH TEXT. Originally a softcover, rebound without wrappers, as was typical (indeed intended) with French books of that period. There author, Leon Marie Martial Chevreuil (1852-1939), a French painter, writer and Spiritualist. This particular work, a study of the scientific evidence for survival after death, telepathy, materialization, etc. was first published in 1916 and awarded a prize by the Académie des Sciences, Paris. The edition of this volume is not stated so it is probably an early reprint. Vellum somewhat darkened and discoloured, pages toned and with a few light creases and a couple of short tears to margins. Still overall a tight & clean VG+ copy. Item #65023
