The Commentaries of AL. Being the Equinox Volume V, No. 1.

Allentown, PA: Joseph J. Zver, 1985. "Unauthorized Copy" Softcover. Small octavo, [xxii] + 288pp. Pink paper wrappers. NOTE: Read description carefully - this is an unusual copy! A very simply produced unauthorized copy of the 1975 Weiser edition of this important collection of Crowley's commentaries on Liber AL, which had been collected and edited by Marcelo Motta. The text is basically a facsimile of the original publication, reproduced in much smaller format and with the print parallel with the fore-edge, so that two pages of the original would fit onto one page of the new edition (done this way for reasons of economy). Unlike most unauthorised editions - which have profit as the primary motive and are anonymously issued - the publisher of this edition identified himself on the inside rear cover, and clearly undertook the publication of the then out-of-print work as a magical act, as he viewed that fact that the texts were not widely available as "an unfortunate loss to humanity." From the collection of Clive Harper with his discreet book-label neatly tipped in at the rear. Harper is well- known as the bibliographer of Austin Osman Spare, for updating the Aleister Crowley bibliography in the 2011 Teitan Press collection of Gerald Yorke's writings, and as someone who has lent his expertise to numerous other publications. Obviously a labor of love. Very basic photo-copy type production values with the reduced size text difficult to read but legible at least to young eyes. Covers worn and chipped at edges, spine and inner rear hinge reinforced with archival quality tissue tape. A Good copy of a genuinely rare publication. Item #65784
