The first edition of this interesting study by Hereward Carrington (1880-1958), one of the best-known British psychical researchers, and the author of a large number of works on psychical research and spiritualism. The book is divided into two sections, approximately the first third is a study of the "normal" psychological effects of the war, on the way it was waged, the individual soldier, etc., whilst the second, much larger, section, deals with the "supernormal," and details and investigates a large variety of accounts of psychic phenomena linked to the war, such as prophecies and premonitions, apparitions and dreams of soldiers, clairvoyant descriptions of death, mediumistically received communications from the war dead, etc. and the effects that these will have on society after the war.
