The Problem of Atlantis.

The Problem of Atlantis.

London: William Rider, 1924. First Edition. Hardcover. Octavo. xvi + 232pp. Red cloth lettered in gilt on spine and upper board, blind borders, b&w illustrations. An attractive first edition of this work by James Lewis Thomas Chalmers Spence (1874 - 1955), a Scottish journalist, folklorist, and prolific author of books on the occult and folk-lore. He developed a strong interest in the fabled land of Atlantis, and wrote a number of books on the subject, following broadly the direction set for the Ignatius Donnelly. Cloth somewhat unevenly darkened, light shelf wear, spine ends bruised, a few bumps to corners and spine ends, page edges darkened, light toning and scattered foxing, a few roughly opened pages, owner's name in pen on front blank. Despite some minor signs of use , still a tight, clean better than VG copy (no dust jacket). Item #66756
