Cosmic People [ Magazine ], Nos. 1 - 6 (Six issues).

New York NY: Smasana Publishing, 1982 - 1989. First Editions. Softcover. Octavo. Six consecutive issues, include: No.1: Illustrated blue stapled wrappers, (Aug. 1982), 48pp; No. 2: Illustrated yellow stapled wrappers, (June 1983): 12pp; b&w illus. No. 3: Illustrated brown stapled wrappers, (June 1985), 16pp; No. 4: Illustrated purple stapled wrappers with white overjacket, (ND), 32pp (printed on rectos only); No. 5: pale purple illustrated stapled wrappers, (Sept. 1986), 12pp, b&w illus.; No. 6: white illustrated stapled wrappers, (Ground Hog Day, 1989), 40pp. The first six consecutive issues of this unusual periodical devoted to the work of Dadaji: Shri Paramahamsha Mahendranath (born Lawrence Amos Miles: 1911-1991), an Englishman who is said to have had a youthful acquaintance with Aleister Crowley and who in later life embraced Indic religion and Tantrism becoming a guru of the northern Indian Uttarakaula Tantric Order. His teachings fuse traditional eastern Tantric with Western magical techniques and went on to form the basis for the Arcane Magical Order of the Knights of Shambhala (AMOOKOS), an occult order founded in 1982 by Michael Magee (Lokanath Maharaj) which gave training to a number of now well-known figures before succumbing to the seemingly inevitable divisions that plague such groups. His teachings are offered in prose, poetry and aphorism. The first issues is largely taken up with two essays by Dadaji, "The Yoga-Vidya of Immortality. The Story of the Adi-Nathas" and "The Pathless Path to Immortality. The Wisdom of the Bhagavan Dattareya," although it also includes several shorter pieces, including a reprinting of Crowley's "Liber Oz." The second issue seems to largely comprise poetic teachings by members of Mahendranath's "Sacred Stone Nation," whilst the third comprises two philosophical poems / teachings "Dust and Ashes" and "The Ashes of the Book" by Mahendranath. The fourth issue is devoted entirely to poems by Mahendranath. The fifth issue contains a variety of content, including a short discourse on "the Cosmic People" by Mahendranath, and the sixth issue again comprises a mixture of content including an essay by Mahendranath, "Smug in Smokey Smashans", and a variety of other pieces. "Fanzine" type production values. Presumably the print-run was small as copies are seldom seen. A bit of light wear from handling, light crease across top corner of issue 6, otherwise tight, clean VG+ copies. Unusual. Item #66803
