Satans Invisible World Discovered; Accompanied with a Bibliographical Notice and Supplement, etc.

Edinburgh: Thomas George Stevenson, 1871. First Edition Thus. Hardcover. Octavo. lii + 264pp + ciii, xxivpp Publisher's catalogue. Red cloth with printed paper spine label, frontispiece. Tales of Scottish witches, warlocks, apparitions, ghosts, devils by a 17th century believer. Reprinted from the extremely rare original edition published at Edinburgh in 1685, the author being Professor of Philosophy and Mathematics in the University of Glasgow. This edition contains a new Prefatory Note by the publisher Thomas George Stevenson, as well as an appended "Additional Relations" which appeared first in the 1764 edition of the book. Stevenson does not state a limitation but indicates this edition to be printed in an "extremely limited" quantity . There were two issues of the edition, one a "small octavo" and the other a "large and fine paper octavo." This is the former of the two issues. Cloth a bit rubbed and darkened overall - more so at spine, spine ends and corners lightly bruised and chafed, a few tiny tears to upper spine and spine label is quite darkened but complete and intact. Page edges, page margins and endpapers darkened, a few light chips and creases to page edges, pages generally fresh and unmarked. Overall a tight, clean VG+ copy of this title - scarce in any edition. Item #66889
