Approx 52pp. Quarter leather binding: cream Morocco spine and matching cream cloth boards, dust jacket, housed in the publisher's slipcase. Tipped in color frontis & 25 full page black and white plates. Top edge gilt. The deluxe quarter-leather issue of the first edition, limited to 40 hand-numbered copies, each of which has a terra cotta cast of a Roman intaglio talisman which the publishers described as "germane to the Cultus" inset into a sunken panel in the rear pastedown. Additionally, this copy has loosely inserted a small card folder with printed label containing a paper talisman. These talismans were apparently only included in subscriber's copies of this edition - not to any sold after publication. This copy is also INSCRIBED by Robert Ansell to the previous owner, the daughter of Spare bibliographer Clive Harper. The volume is the first publication of a suite of automatic drawings from a 1924 sketchbook of Spare's, accompanied by an introductory essay by Robert Ansell and an excerpt from Spare's work "The Logomachy." A lovely copy - Fine condition, Fine dust jacket, slipcase has the inevitable mild shelf-wear, but still in near Fine condition. Item #67284
