Asheville, NC [ York Beach, Maine USA ]: 93 Publishing [ & Samuel Weiser Publishing ], 1994/1945. First Edition, Privately Bound Lodge Copy. Hardcover. Large thick octavo. lxxxiv + 810pp. Hand bound in black cow-hide, gilt titling and lodge name "Syntaxiss" on spine. B&w Crowley frontisportrait and b&w illustrations, color plates. References, appendices, and indexes. Marbled endpapers. In addition to the standard cloth edition there were three different limited issues of the 1994 edition of "Liber Aba." This copy was specially produced from unbound sheets of the work for the (then) Lodge Master of Syntaxiss Lodge of the O.T.O., Jeff Clark. By Clark's account Hymenaeus Beta gave him eleven unbound sets of sheets of the book, circa 1995, to be bound up for use in the Lodge. He had this copy bound in full black leather, as the Lodge Master's personal copy, with the remaining ten copies bound in durable cloth for the other Lodge members, and the Lodge libary.
The text is the first definitive edition of Crowley's masterwork "Book Four." It includes the texts of "Book Four" Parts I (Mysticism) and Two (Magick), Part III: "Magick in Theory and Practice," and - as Crowley had originallly intended, Part IV, "The Book of the Law," with various other texts added as Appendices and an Introduction and copious notes by Hymenaeus Beta. From the collection of Clive Harper with his discreet book-label neatly tipped in at the rear. Harper is well- known as the bibliographer of Austin Osman Spare, for updating the Aleister Crowley bibliography in the 2011 Teitan Press collection of Gerald Yorke's writings, and as someone who has lent his expertise to numerous other publications.
A print-out of Harper's description of the book is loosely inserted, as is the original binder's receipt. Fore-edge lightly thumbed, a few light marks to top-edge, otherwise a bright, clean, near-Fine copy. Obviously unique thus. Item #67699
