Publisher's bright red cloth with gilt titling to spine and upper board; gilt serpent/solar design on upper cover, color frontis & plates, b&w illustrations. Includes prefaces to the second, and third editions, along with publisher's notes to earlier editions. A hardcover reprint of the most well known of the works by Sir John Woodroffe (1865-1936) and long a standard, if technical, introduction to tantric, shaktic, and kundalini yoga. Woodroffe, who also used the pseudonym Arthur Avalon, was a leading jurist who devoted much of his free time to the study of Sanskrit and Hindu religion, in particular tantrism, and was largely responsible for its introduction to the English speaking West. Very light signs of handling, corners and spine ends bruised and light chafed, pages lightly toned but fresh and unmarked, a few creased edges and corners. In remarkably good & solid shape for such a heavy volume. Overall a tight, bright and unmarked VG+ copy in VG illustrated dust jacket (Dust jacket lightly rubbed overall, edges creased, some spots of chafing and chipping at edges and folds, not clipped.
