The first edition in this format of this volume by German mystic Karl Von Eckartshausen (1752 – 1803) in which he outlined the existence of a secret order or "hidden church" that guided human destiny. The work is known to have played a signal role in Aleister Crowley's embrace of occult pursuits, and was highly influential within hermetic fraternities like the Golden Dawn and the Societas Rosicrucian in America, who produced this edition. With a new foreword by Theodotus Stanislaus de Witow (1890-1969) who served as both Primate and Supreme Magus of the Societas Rosicruciana in America after the death of
George Winslow Plummer. This copy from the library of Crowley scholar Martin P. Starr with his ownership name and acquisition date in pen on first blank. Pages toned, glue residue at front inner margin, still a tight, VG+ copy in VG dust jacket (jacket browned, pevious owner's name in pencil on front panel, spine ends a little chafed, folds quite rubbed, now protected by a removable mylar sleeve).
