A copy of Roger Hutchinson's "Aleister Crowley: The Beast Demystified" with an Autograph Letter, Signed, From Kenneth Anger presenting the book to Martin P. Starr.
1998 / 1999. First edition. Anger's letter is in blue felt-tip in his disctintive handwriting, on the recto of a single sheet of 11 x 8 1/2 inch paper. Pink paper stock with Anger's name in delightful illustrated letterhead at the top of the page. The letter reads: "2.10.99 ev,v, Dear Martin. 93. This was sent to me by a friend in Scotland. As I've read it, I'm happy to pass it along to you. Should you already have it, you can pass it along to Bill. Let me know what you think of it. 93 93/93 Love [ Signed ] Kenneth." The book is a first edition, published by Mainstream Publishing, Edinburgh, in1998. It is a large octavo, hardcover, 216pp. Black cloth with silver title, etc. to spine, index. Although largely overshadowed by the biographies by Kaczynski, et al, Hutchinson's work is not without its merits, particularly when it comes to Crowley's early years, and for its more disinterested perspective. From the collection of the recipient, Crowley-scholar Martin P. Starr, who is well known as the author of "The Unknown God" and co-founder of the Teitan Press and the editor of a number of it's early works. The book has just a hint of shelfwear, upper corner very lightly bumped else a tight bright near Fine copy in VG+ dust jacket. (Dust jacket has just a bit of light shelf rubbing to panels and and creasing to edges, not clipped. Now in mylar cover). The has a hint of fading around the edges, and a horizontal crease across the centre, but it otherwise in Fine condition. Item #68145
