Dr. Anne Ross (b. 1925) is a Gaelic speaking scholar, writer and archeologist - was a Research Fellow in Archaeology at the University of Southampton and professor at the University College of Wales, who has lived and worked in crofting communities and was thus amply qualified to present this wide-ranging and vividly written survey of the ffolklore of the Highlands with much on omens and taboos, rituals and festivals, waulking songs, the tradition of seers and second sight, witchcraft, etc.. She is also the author of several other well-know works - namely "Out of the Past" (1969), "The Celts" (2001) and "The Celts" (1987).
