From the personal archive of the book's publisher, David Tibet, with "Archive Copy" in his handwriting and SIGNED by him on the reverse of first blank. A dark and bizarre tale of a cursed manuscript, drawn from the Faust legend, by the remarkable decadent writer Count Stanislaus Eric Stenbock (1860–1895). A homosexual convert to Roman Catholicism, Stenbock's life was said to have been as strange as his literature. He kept a variety of pets including a serpent, a toad, and a dachshund called Trixie, and in his final years he said to have been always in the company of a life-size wooden doll that he believed to be his son. Stenbock died at the age of thirty-six as a result of his addictions to opium and his alcohol. Just a bare hint of shelf rubbing - else appears new - a bright, fresh Fine copy (No dust jacket).
