Dr John Dee's Spiritual Diaries (1583-1608). Being a reset and corrected edition of a True & Faithful Relation of what Passed for many Years between Dr John Dee and Some Spirits.
London & Singapore: Golden Hoard Press, 2011. Limited Edition. Hardcover. Folio. (13.5" x 9"). 680pp. Half black leather with red leather boards, gilt titling and raised bands to spine, gilt title and device to front board. Marbled endpapers. Appendices, footnotes, supplementary texts, 26 b&w illustrations. The leather bound first edition of this important revamped and reader-friendly edition of the classic "True & Faithful Relation," limited to 200 hand-numbered copies. This copy SIGNED and numbered by Stephen Skinner on the limitation page. The "True & Faithful Relation" was originally transcribed and published by Meric Casaubon in 1659. This new edition has been reset into a legible modern typeface, and contains John Dee's Spiritual Diaries for 25 years (1583-1608), now made available for the first time in an organized and readable form and incorporating corrections from the original notes of Meric Casaubon, Elias Ashmole and William Shippen, with reference to the original manuscript written by Dee. Sections which were originally missing from Casaubon's edition have been added and many of Casaubon's errors corrected. Stephen Skinner has also included a detailed introduction, appendices, extensive footnotes, supplementary texts, additional illustrations, and a Dee timeline. Some yellowing to fore-edge margins and edges of about a dozen copies: the previous owner said it was received from the publisher like this, and it is presumably an artefact of being stored in a humid Malaysian warehouse. Otherwise a lovely Fine copy (no dust jacket issued). A large heavy volume that due to its size and value will require additional shipping and insurance charges to the amount automatically quoted, the exact cost varying according to destination.
