(x) + 76pp. Quarter cloth: dark blue cloth spine with gilt titling over patterned buff paper-covered boards with black titling to front board. Photographic frontispiece, Index and "Genealogical Table of the Early Buddhist and Christian Legends of Walking on the Water". A serious study comparing the Biblical stories of Jesus and Peter walking on water with earlier Indic religious legends of a similar nature. By William Norman Brown (1892 – 1975) a highly regarded Indologist and Sanskritist who was Professor of Sanskrit at the University of Pennsylvania for much of his career, and was closely involved with the foundation of the American Oriental Society. Corners bumped and rubbed, a little rubbing to the cloth at head and tail of spine. Bookplate on front pastedown, foxing to first half-dozen leaves, vertical pencil lives in margins throughout (could be erased but it would require a bit of patience). Overall a tight, clean, better than VG copy (no dust jacket). Item #70302
