The Book of Thoth. A Short Essay on the Tarot of the Egyptians. Being The Equinox Volume III No. V.
New York, NY: Samuel Weiser Inc., 1969. First Edition Thus. Hardcover. Small Quarto, xii + 288pp. Blue cloth with gilt title, etc. to spine, color frontis which was omitted from later printings, color and b&w plates. The first printing (1969) of the Weiser edition of "The Book of Thoth," Crowley's masterwork on the tarot, with color and black and white reproductions of the card designs by Frieda Harris. A landmark work in occult publishing, it came in two bindings, blue and pink: this one has the blue binding (sadly no-one seems to know why the different colours, and which, if either, had precedence.) Light general shelfwear, very light bruising to corners and spine ends which also show a little discoloration, page edges a bit darkened and thumbed, one leaf ( 269 / 270) has a long vertical crease in the margin, probably a binding flaw (the crease is not severe and barely touches the text, which is unaffected). A few insignificant marks to the endpapers, otherwise unmarked. Overall a tight clean VG+ copy in a quite convincing FACSIMILE of the dust jacket (the FACSIMILE dust jacket is in removable mylar cover - it is not really noticeable that it a 2 piece construction until you take it out of the cover). A moderately large volume which may require additional postage dependant upon destination. Item #70948
