Fold-out of the mss. of "The Book of the Law" at front of volume [omitted from some later printings]. The stated first edition of this Regardie-edited collection of Crowley's commentaries on "The Book of the Law," which was also arguably the first book to present Crowley's thoughts on "Liber AL" to a broad modern audience, being much more widely available than the "Magical and Philosophical Commentaries on the Book of the Law" which was published the previous year. It includes Israel Regardie's Introduction, "The Book of the Law" itself, both Crowley's "old" and "new" comments, and an Appendix comprising "Liber Trigrammaton" and "Gematrias" and is without doubt a landmark work in the dissemination of Thelemic thought. This copy from the collection of Clive Harper with his discrete book-label neatly tipped in at the rear. Harper is well-known as the bibliographer of Austin Osman Spare, for updating the Aleister Crowley bibliography in the 2011 Teitan Press collection of Gerald Yorke's writings, and as someone who has lent his expertise to numerous other publications. Covers have been neatly sealed in clear laminate, light rubbing at edges and corners, page fore-edge a bit thumbed and darkened, fold out has a few light corner and edge creases, a bit of white out at upper corner of first few leaves (presumably removing an earlier owner information), pages clean and unmarked. Overall a solid, unmarked copy of the scarce first edition of this title that would rate much better than VG were it not for the (admittedly skilful) application of the laminate. Item #71935
