An Old Master. The Art of Aleister Crowley + Separate 'Exhibit Guide'.
London: The O.T.O. in association with the October Gallery, 1998. First Edition. Softcover. Quarto. 32pp. Stapled, dramatically illustrated pictorial wrappers. This copy INSCRIBED & SIGNED by the editor, Hymenaeus Beta, Frater Superior of the O.T.O., on the front blank: "For Nick / ... / 93 93/93 / Hymenaeus Beta [in Greek beside an eleven-fold cross]." The recipient of the volume was English bibliophile and Aleister Crowley scholar Nicholas Bishop-Culpeper (1942-2011). Nick was well known for his ability to discover long forgotten Crowley pieces, some of which he published in booklet form.
The catalogue was for the 1998 London exhibition of Crowley's art, the first major show of his work since the 1930s. It includes essays by Martin P. Starr & Karl Nierendorf and various photographs of Crowley as well as mostly-colour reproductions of the 40 of his artworks (plus 2 by Frieda Harris and 1 forgery!) which were on display. An example of the original 4-page 'Exhibit Guide' which gives - where known - the titles of the works, the medium in which they were executed; and their then-current owner is loosely inserted. A touch of creasing around the staples, as always, otherwise both catalogue and Exhibit Guide appear to be almost as new. Thus tight, bright, unmarked and in Fine condition. Item #72918
