(7 1/4 x 4 1/4 inches) xxviii + 98pp. Quarter leather: black snake-skin type leather spine with raised bands and gilt stamped black leather title-label. Inverted cross blind-stamped beneath a gilt title on upper board. Housed in original black cloth covered slipcase. Marbled endpapers, ribbon markers. Frontispiece on coated paper, various b&w illustrations, initials and ornamental typographical devices throughout. Edition limited to 1000 numbered copies, most of which were bound in trade cloth. This being the scarcer leather bound edition, with this copy numbered 95. Although not certain, it seem likely that no more than 200 books were released in leather or quarter leather as this.
The book itself is a new edition of the "Grimoire of Pope Honorius," a famous grimoire attributed to Pope Honorius III; known as the papal sorcerer of the Middle Ages. This edition includes the sigils and illustrations known to be associated with this work, as well as spells, summonings, etc., some of which were not available prior to this translation. Text translated from the Old German by Ms. Kineta Ch'ien and with a bibliographic prolegomenon by Mr. John Davis. Appended to the work is a translation of the 15th century Ecclesiastic work, "Coniurationes Demonum", translated from the Latin by Matthew Sullivan and an essay: "An Examination of the Editions of the Grimoire of Pope Honorius." A lovely "as new" copy, tight, bright about Fine copy in same slipcase. Item #73650
