Glasgow Scotland: Magnum Opus Hermetic Sourceworks, 1987. Limited Edition. Hardcover. Octavo. viii + 124pp. Hand bound in series brown faux-leather, maroon endpapers. B&w diagrams. Edition limited to 250 hand-numbered copies signed by Adam McLean, this being copy no. 154. Magnum Opus Hermetic Sourceworks series No. 23. This volume reproduces the 16 kabbalistic diagrams, along with a translation of the accompanying text and commentaries, that were originally published in Knorr von Rosenroth's 17th century Kabbalistic magnum opus, the "Kabbalah Denudata." McLean describes the diagrams and text as illustrative of "the key ideas of Lurianic kabbalah" and observes that they "relate in form to hermetic-alchemical figures of the same period. It is from material such as this that the 'Kabbalistic' tradition as pursued today in Western occultism has emerged, rather than directly from the Jewish tradition, so this volume gives us some valuable insights into the roots of Western kabbalah." A later issue of the first (and only) edition thus: the paper on which the book is printed is a relatively bright white, deep maroon endpapers. The binding is a medium-brown with the title lettered down the spine reading "Kabbalistic Diagrams". A bright, clean near Fine copy. Item #74054
