The Dream of Poliphilus. Volume One. Chapters 1 - 16. Edited by Adam McLean from the incomplete English translation published in 1592.
Glasgow Scotland: Magnum Opus Hermetic Sourceworks, 1986. Limited Edition. Hardcover. Octavo. viii + 158pp. Hand bound in series brown faux-leather, medium-brown endpapers. B&w illustrations, bibliography. Edition limited to 250 hand-numbered copies signed by Adam McLean, this being copy no. 82. Magnum Opus Hermetic Sourceworks series No. 21. "The Dream of Poliphilus, the Hypnerotomachia," is a mid-15th century allegorical work, attributed to a Dominican monk named Francesco Colonna. In his accompanying texts McLean suggests that the underlying theme is that of alchemical transformation, and the book's author obviously an adept versed in that art. The text has been edited by McLean from Chapters 1 to 16 of the (incomplete) English translation of 1592. An early issue: aside from the relatively low number the binding is the early style mottled brown faux-leather used by McLean, with the lettering down the spine that reads "Dream of Poliphilus". A hint of darkening to edges of text block, otherwise a tight, bright Near-fine copy. Item #74057
