San Francisco, CA: Level Press, 1974. First Edition Thus. Softcover. Octavo (8 1/2 x 5 3/8 inches). (vi) 70 (ivpp - blank) Cream printed wrappers, with design based on the Stele of Revealing incorporating the text "LIBER AL VEL LEGIS / ALEISTER CROWLEY" on the upper wrapper and with an abridged version of the text of "Liber OZ" on the back. Errata slip tipped in at front. The 1974 Level Press edition of "The Book of the Law," which in addition to the standard text includes a variant version of the text. The first of the two versions of "The Book of the Law" (Liber CCXX) presented seems to be taken directly from the corrected 1942 US edition. Following this an "Editor's Note" on p. 29 recounts the discovery in a London library of a photocopy of a manuscript of "The Book of the Law" that differed from that which was printed in facsimile in "The Equinox of the Gods." As the whereabouts of the original manuscript was then unknown (it was not rediscovered until 1984) the publishers decided to include a transcription of the photocopy - a sort of typeset version of this apparent variant of "Liber XXXI."
Covers show a touch of shelf-wear, a little glue darkening to the blank inner margin of the errata slip where it is tipped to the half-title, otherwise Internally bright and clean. A tight bright and clean VG+ copy and scarce thus. However, please note: this is a 50+ year old glued paperback - and at this stage the glue on all copies is becoming brittle. It will have to be treated with care or it will shed pages. Uncommon in such nice condition due to its fragility, and an interesting variant text. Item #74409
