The Rosicrucian Brotherhood Quarterly. Vol. II. No. 4. October, 1908.
Manchester, NH (USA): S. C. Gould, 1908. First Edition. Softcover booklet. (78pp - variously paginated) Original red soft wrappers, text in black. The fourth number of the second volume of the journal "The Rosicrucian Brotherhood Quarterly". Just to confuse matters the series started in January 1907 and the first number of the journal had the title "The Rosicrucian and Philosopher's Stone" but the title was changed to "The Rosicrucian Brotherhood Quarterly" ("TRBQ") with the second number (April 1907), which title it kept for the rest of the series. In total there were nine numbers issued, with the final being Volume III, No. 1, January 1909. "TRBQ" was an esoteric journal founded by Sylvester Clark Gould (1840-1909) in 1907, the same year that Gould, in company with George Winslow Plummer, founded the Societas Rosicruciana in America, and it seems likely that journal was allied to that endeavour. The number of "TRBQ" offered here (Vol. II. No. 4. October, 1908) includes the second part of a poem: "King Solomon's Temple" by Augustine J. H. Duganne; a series of short essays on various esoteric subjects; the second and third installments of an overview of "Arcane Societies in the United States" (28 & 8 pp respectively) each with a paragraph or two describing it; a four page piece on Edward Vaughan Keneally; various short essays, reviews, a list of Occult Books for Sale, etc. etc. There is some discoloration, short tears, and chipping to the wrappers, and a thumbnail-sized price (?) label to front wrapper. The spine is quite chipped and there is a diagonal crease across upper corner of wrappers and text block. Still a complete G+ copy of a scarce and fragile publication. Item #74415
