The Rosicrucian Brotherhood Quarterly. Vol. III. No. 1. January, 1909.

Manchester New Hampshire: S. C. Gould, 1909. First Edition. Softcover booklet. 56pp (+ivpp) Original red soft wrappers, text in black. The first number of the third volume of "The Rosicrucian Brotherhood Quarterly", which was also the final in the series. The series started in January 1907 and the first number of the journal had the title "The Rosicrucian and Philosopher's Stone" but the title was changed to "The Rosicrucian Brotherhood Quarterly" ("TRBQ") with the second number (April 1907), which title it kept for the next seven numbers, with that offered here ( Volume III, No. 1, January 1909) being the final. "TRBQ" was an esoteric journal founded by Sylvester Clark Gould (1840-1909) in 1907, the same year that Gould, in company with George Winslow Plummer, founded the Societas Rosicruciana in America, and it seems likely that journal was allied to that endeavour.
There is some confusion about "TRBQ" Volume III, No. 1, January 1909 with the scan of an example of it reproduced on the excellent "International Association for the Preservation of Spiritualist and Occult Periodicals" (IAPSOP) website being markedly different to that of the copy here described. This could be the result of some jumbling of numbers and pages during the scanning process, or it could be that the editor, S. C. Gould, who at the time of publication had barely six months to live, or the printer, accidentally released two versions: the correct (here described), and one a confusion of reviews etc from earlier issues (shown in the scanned form). Unfortunately we do not have the time or means to explore this mystery further, but there is little doubt that the copy here is the "correct" version as intended.
A short list of the contents is: The Origin and Nature of the Tetragrammaton by S. R. Driver, The Supreme Being- Humanity; Hindu Sayings; The Rise of Reason; The New Rosicrucianism; The Veiled Image at Sais; To The Renowned Eugenius!; To His Ingenuous Friend Mr. John Heydon; The Riddle of Hermes; Rosicrucian and Freemasons; Scioahspe; The Aquarian Age; The Man of Mentone; Reviews: A Dweller on the Planets; The Orbs of the Universe; The Raven’s Leaf.
Wrappers unevenly darkened, and with a couple of scrapes and some tears to the front wrapper and a little chipping to the edges. Otherwise a tight, about VG copy of a very scarce number of this rare publication. Item #74416
